I’m a MAC Tuesday, May 5 2009

So as you all know I’ve been contemplating getting a Mac for some time now. The biggest issue that I had been having was the price. I never really had to pay for a computer. So I think that was my biggest issue. I’ve always had a company computer so why pay for it. Buying a computer is just one more expense that I don’t really need. One day last week I got home from work and just decided to say the hell with it. I work for a living and I should be able to buy what I want. So here is my review of my new Imac 24 inch

I decided to get it from Best Buy. I have a 18 months no interest card. I decided to order it online. I really hate to deal with sales people. Regardless how cool people are at the “Mac Store So at 7:30 I decided to order it. At 8 I got an email saying that it was ready to be picked up. I then fly to the store. I was there in 5 minutes. I actually do live a quarter of a mile from the store. I go to customer service and pay with credit card. The girl brings up the box. It is ginormous. My first thoughts are this is going to be awesome. So I bring it home and undo my POS dell from my desk and plug it up. I get everything up and running in about 15 min. It is amazing how cool the screen looks.

Things I’ve done with my IMAC

  1. The software it comes with is pretty cool to play with

  2. Phone Booth. Its just an app that allows you to take pictures with your built in camera and then apply random effects to them
  3. Garage Band- you can make songs and such and I believe it will actually help you learn to play an instrument
  4. I’m amazed how smooth Itunes runs. Itunes on any PC that I’ve had usually kind of takes a long time to load. On this its up and running in a blink of an eye.
  5. I found a program that you can take music off of an IPOD that’s not synced with your Itunes account
  6. I’ve installed VMWARE fusion.  This allows you to install windows that runs as a virtual machine. It pretty much runs like another piece of software. It’s amazing how smooth Windows runs in it. If you put it in full screen you can’t tell that you’re not working on a Microsoft machine
  7. I’ve installed Microsoft office for Mac. This runs very well

I haven’t done all that much on the machine yet. I’ve been searching for apps and such that I would use. There are a ton of apps that people would use. Some are free and others you have to pay for just like the Iphone just a little pricier. So tonight I asked my self tonight can I justify spending the extra money on a computer? The answer is yes. Why do you ask? This computer just runs so dam smooth. There really is no lag when opening different programs. You don’t get the Illegal operations this system must close. So I have came up with a Pro’s and con’s list for you people that my be on the lookout and reasons to justify spending the extra cash

Pro’s

  1. Your cooler when you have one j/k

  2. No spam or spyware

  3. It runs very smooth

  4. If you need to run windows on it you can load VMWARE fusion and it works like a champ

  5. You can’t go wrong with a 24 inch screen

  6. No illegal operations.

  7. Capability to take songs off your IPOD without having to sync it.

  8. It is fairly easy to use and to figure out

  9. Most people who own Mac’s don’t mind answering questions. (PC people are aholes…..i know I’m one of them)

  10. The only wire you really need is the power. It makes your desk really look neat

CONS

  1. The new keyboard takes some getting use to. It’s kind of small. I even bought the wireless one and it was around 60 bucks

  2. Not everything you want to do on a MAC can be done on it. But there is a work around

  3. Im not a fan of the mouse

  4. I now want a MAC laptop….. yes that’s a CON

  5. It’s pricey

So on a final note If you came to me and asked me should you buy a Mac or a PC my response would be buy a mac if you can afford it. It’s a great piece of equipment. There is an actual learning curve. You have to get use to how the OS works. It runs really great and I can honestly say I may never buy a PC for a personal computer again. I AM NOW A MAC

PC or Mac…..Yes again! Friday, Mar 27 2009

As I was about to go to bed I decided to take a look at the Tech Crunch website.  I gander over and see an article about the new Windows commercial. So I start reading all the comments.  I never really realized that the battle between Mac users and PC users were like kids in grade school.  You smell like camel shit…your mom’s a crack addict Blah Blah Blah.  Pretty much that’s what it sounds like.  So I’m turning on Pandora and popping open a beer (blog mode)

Yes I have been contemplating getting a Mac computer.  Yes I admit to it.  I am guilty.  Throw shells, tar and feather me or beat me with a crow bar.  I don’t give rats ***.  I just can’t see spending 1500 or more on a computer in this day in age.  Mac user’s blood pressures are starting to rise.   I will basically break a PC down for you. Dell and HP PC’s are crap.  I can say that with confidence.   I’ve cursed and thrown things when working on them.  The truth is these pieces of junk are made with crap parts.  The true PC is usually custom built.  A custom built PC will last a long time and usually is easy upgradeable (if you need to upgrade it).  I have built computers for people when I was in college and these machines today are still running well.

I will have to admit no matter what PC you have you may run into spy ware or viruses.  But common sense tells you not to look all the Viagra emails and stop looking for all the free porn on the web. Yes I’m calling you porn watchers out.  Perverted bastards.   That’s where all the crap comes from.  I can also say that Vista is crap.  It is probably the biggest piece of junk that has ever been invented well since snugie.   It tries to do way to much and it runs slow.  XP has its problems, but I think it works rather well.  Why couldn’t Microsoft just fix XP?  They wrote the damn software.

Ok Mac people are starting to hate me now.  I have to ask.  What can’t be done on a custom built PC that can be done on a MAC?  Will my eyes not hurt from looking at the screen after, will it make me more money a year, will it go get me another beer downstairs?  What makes it so much more expensive?  Tell me damn it.   In a nut shell it’s a different OS.  I mean I can honestly say a Mac looks dam good.  That’s why their in the movies and TV shows (ha ha ha).  Other than it being the Maria Sharapova of computers.  Why use mac?

So now that I’ve raised some harsh questions about  Mac’s you are probably asking your self why I would even think of buying one.  Well I’m into technology.  I like to know how to work everything.  I like to have shiny new toys.  I like to keep up with the Jones’s.  I have to have something better than the next person.  I love new gadgets.  I work for a living why should I be able to buy a new toy if I want one.  Although at this point I don’t think I can see why a Mac is so much better than a PC.  I can do the same thing with a $700 computer that I can do with a $2000  Mac.  I know someone is reading this and saying grow a pair…….Maybe I should start a donation website that will allow Mac users to change my mind on the subject.  Who’s up for it?

The hypster Wednesday, Mar 4 2009

You ever just lay in your bed at night and you mind just starts to wonder about every single little problem you had all day.  First of all I would like to ask where the hell were all these answers though out the day?  How come I can come three different ways to back something up and during the day I can’t come up with one.  It’s amazing the things your mind can come up with when it actually has a second to rest and think.  Maybe I should get a futon in my office and just lay down.  Well that wouldn’t work because I would probably take a nap for like 2 hours everyday.

So I’ve been thinking about getting a Mac.  As most of you know who are often readers.  I’m really glad that I didn’t buy one last week when I first had the “itch”.  Welcome the new, cheaper, upgraded Imac’s.  If I get one I will not only save 300 bucks, but I will get an upgraded version.  I’ve been asking around if I will like the change to Mac.  Basically the only person that will be able to answer that question is me.   My biggest fear is that I’m not going to like it or that I will tell my self that I wasted my money and I could of done the same things with a PC.  Although the last couple of weeks I have been having problems with my PC (lockups etc).  I know what you’re thinking, “Ryan go get a new Mac.”  But it’s my work computer, laptop, and desktop.  Maybe I’m just making these machines lock up so I can jump on the “I hate Microsoft” bandwagon.  I really don’t’ think there is much different from a PC to a MAC.  It’s basically the same thing but with a different OS.  All I can figure out is that I really want an Imac so that I can see what all the hype is about.  Yes I am a hypster(yes I made that word.)  I must admit that I like new toys. I am a technology person.  Technology pays the bills.

PC Vs Mac Tuesday, Feb 24 2009

So I’m trying to decide if I should splurge and buy a Mac. I pretty much want one to learn and to keep up with the times I’ve been a PC person all my life except when I was a kid and had one of the first Mac’s. Pretty much these days fixing a PC pays the bills I’m also trying to decide if I should get an IMAC or a Mac Pro. Please give me some pro’s and cons. Thanks for your help
